Zorro’s Comeback Fund

On Friday March 28th at around midnight Lance was 20 miles from the finnish line of the All Alaskan Sweepstakes Race when a snowmachiner plowed into his sled injuring several of his dogs and seriously injuring Zorro. Zorro was flown to Pet Emergency in Anchorage with several broken ribs and unknown internal injuries. Zorro is 9 years old and Lance’s main sled dog. The Comeback Kennel was formed around him and he has been on the winning teams in the Yukon Quest and Iditarod races for the last two years. Lance’s $3,000 race sled was also totaled in the crash.

How You Can Help:

The Mackey Family and the Comeback Kennel could use our prayers and support!

Any donations to offset the veterinary bills and cost to replace the ruined sled and other gear would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately this is not the first time or even the second time a musher and his/her team has been seriously injured by snowmachiners during a race. You can write to the sled committees of the Quest, Iditarod and the Sweepstakes urging them to make the trails safer and at the very least alert snowmachiners to when mushers will be using their section of the trail or better yet keep them off the trail while mushers are in the area.
